For the past 16 years, we have escaped the house and retreated to the beach for 2 weeks in January.
It started off in a canvas tent with our 3 young boys and has progressed to our older style Millard caravan. It was all about escaping the TV, Playstation and generally go back to basics of entertaining ourselves.
Doing hikes, swimming and surfing in the ocean, driving on the beach (many learner driver hours has been supervised on the beach), fishing in the river and hanging out and making new friends.
It really has been our savor because it was always close to the end of the school holidays and the kids were not continually saying I'm Bored whilst we were away.
Now the kids have grown up and my husband and I are still going as it is the best switch off ever. I read 4 books usually as this is the only time I get to read during the year. It is pure bliss to disconnect and enjoy life.
Our 3 boys still visit for a few days as they can't stay away from bliss either.
